Fall in Love with Ceramics all over again...

Well September is quickly rolling around and finally, it looks like it's summer here on the fair Isle of Gabriola and at Feedlot Studios. That said, let me tell you that Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year. It's a time when things quiet down after the hectic summer months and my creative juice start to flow freely once again....Just in time for the Thanksgiving Studio Tour that runs from October 8-10 this year. Just like the wild turkeys that roam North Road I'll be shaking a tail feather and racking up a whole new line of ceramics to see me the whole fall through. So what's in store for you? Well read on!

Monday Night Open Studios

As usual we will be continuing this grand Monday Night Tradition tradition from 6-9 PM.

Bring your enthusiasm and appetite for clay and art commraderie to this lively session. Chances are Lynn Bowerman will be in attendance with her fabulus story telling ways.

Friday Weekday Session

I am also thinking of starting up a more formal  starting from 11-5 at Feedlot Studios as, truth be told, I am much more of a day person than a night person.  Lately, I have had a few more folk stop by to work on special projects here, there and everywhere and while that's super great, I relaize that there are probably some other daytime lovin' folk out there!

So let's try Fridays as the alternate day of Blessed Day of Cermamic Making.

Cost

Cost is still  a mere $10/ hour and that includes all you materials, firing and wee nip of the vino if you choose during the Monday evening session!

A Special Surface Glazing Workshop

This just in!mmmm...glazing

Feedlot Studios is hosting some special ceramic times that is all to do with what you can do with that piece of ceramic loveliness after you make it.

In this Four Week Monday Night wonder-workshop we will explore the basics of glazing, but THEN we shall delve into a treasure trove of underglaze pencils and crayons, china paints, commercial ceramic decals. Why we'll even make our own homemade decals too!

Handmade & pre-fired plates will serve as our basic canvas, but you can bring in other pre-fired items once you get the hang of things. No materials, tools or special know-how needed...Just a sense of ceramic adventure is all that’s required.

Kid Dy-no-mite Clay Classes!

Explode into spring with a series of 5 clay classes geared for your little firecracker. Classes include all materials and firing and of course, time with Mr. Pickles, Rodney and Angus

Kids Age: 7 – 10

When: Fridays form March 19th – April 22^th

(Note: 2 classes fall during Spring Break)

Time: 2:00 – 3:30

Cost: $75 (+ HST)

(Please note that I will be away on April 8^th so class will resume the following week!)



Valentine's Day Kids Classes (Class is now Full Up!)

OOOhhh L'amour!

It's time to make some heart shaped stuffs to give to all your friends and family sweethearts.

Feedlot Studios is happy to host Two Special Kids Classes for this February occasion:

• Thursday, February 3 (3:30-5:30) A Valentine's After School Special for those Kids 8+  ($25 + HST)
• Saturday, February 5 (11:00-12:30) A Valentine's Special for the Kids and Parents 3-7 ($25 + HST)

Open Studios at Feedlot Studios

Come get your hands dirty at Feedlot Studios on Wednesdays evenings for the months of February and March.

This is largely undirected studio time available to those with even a little clay experience under their belts. If you are a little uncertain about your way around the studio, not to worry as Mariko will be available for basic handbuilding tutorials and general clay making and glazing.

Projects we've loved to make with you so far:

• Dishes, plates, platters
• Soap Dishes, coasters
• Personalized Mugs
• Vases
• Figurines of your favorite pets
• Gifts for your favorite friends

That's just the beginning though as the possibilities are endless!

• The 3 Hour Sessions run from Wednesday,  February 2 (6-9 PM) to Wednesday, March 30   (6-9 PM).
• Please note that I will be away for a lecture in Vancouver the second week so the session will be shifted to Monday, February 7. All others wil remain the same.
• The way it works: Basically, the cost is $10 an hour. You can come for all three hours or a portion of. Hours will be rounded up to the next fullest hour. Payment can be made as you go or at the end of the months of February and March.
• Materials and firing: All materials and firings will be included in the cost of the Open Studio session within reason. Should you have a tonne of work to fire or are planning on really big projects let's talk.
• Tools...we have tools galore and a variety of rubber stamps, but feel free to bring something to "impress" upon your objets de clay arte.
• Limited Participation: We are going to make these sessions an 8 person extravaganza so there will be lots of room to spread out.
