Mariko & Bryan McCraeThe people behind this creative madness

After meeting “one dark and stormy night” a couple of years ago, Mariko and Bryan decided to try marriage on for size and discovered a perfect fit. He, armed to the teeth with computer skills galore, and she, with a boatload of ceramic talent, lived and worked in a tiny bungalow atop Calgary’s Parkhill area. Laundry Collective and Paterson Industries (after Mariko’s maiden name) were soon launched in the studio out back where they have been working ever since.

Bryan, having lived and worked his whole life in Calgary decided it was time for a big change. After attending his sister’s wedding on Salt Spring Island, we were convinced to turn our gaze further west…namely to the gulf islands. Gabriola Island won out after much deliberation and our earnest hunt turned up the house and studio of our dreams.

After a couple months of sweaty, summer grunty work, the revamping of our studio/gallery was complete and good to go. Since then there's been no looking back. We do hope that you will come visit us at Feedlot Studios either online or in person the next time you need a little inspiration.
